Southern Crafted Homes will be hosting a great event on Sunday March 28th at our Stonegate community located one mile west of Land O Lakes Boulevard (Hwy 41) and three miles east of the Suncoast Expressway. We are hosting Karin King and her organization Treats for Troops. What started as a humble effort to bake cookies and ship them to troops in combat zones has grown into an assembly line operation that meets every Sunday after church to bake cookies and package them up. It is so big the neighbors have to help store the cookie dough in their freezers. Naturally, the group started dropping other things into the care packages and next thing you knew toiletries, beef jerky, coffee, snacks, feminine hygiene products, stationary and other items started to appear. Letters started arriving. All of them had messages of thanks. Others were pleas for help for more important needs and Treats for Troops has met those needs as well. There are a couple retired Navy officers working behind the scenes helping give advice and more important making the important contacts to get much needed materials and products donated. Today Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Lance and many other companies have come forward and there is a steady flow of products for our troops. Locally the volunteers have been incredible giving up their days to collect donations, pack the care packages and spread the word. While the product is donated the postage is not and it costs a lot of money to send 69 pound care packages half way across the world. Operation Pocket Change is committed and tasked with getting the funds necessary to get these care packages into the hands of our troops. The Tampa Bay Lightning has been helpful in assisting with this effort and there is an effort to get the NHL as a whole more involved.

Locally Southern Crafted Homes has chosen Treats for Troops as our focus this year to giving back to the community. We have so many of our young men and women serving in combat zones around the world it is with great pride that we support this effort in any way we can. So on March 28th Southern Crafted Homes will host an event at our Stonegate community in Land O Lakes to support Operation Pocket Change with the goal of raising $25,000 in a single day event. With support from the community their will be great displays, great attractions, and great fun while we also focus on our troops who are in harms way, protecting our freedoms and our safety from those who would do us harm. We hope to see as many of our community present to celebrate our freedom, support our troops and collect enough money to get as many care packages as possible to our troops top make their lives just a little easier.

Southern Crafted Homes is a Military Veteran friendly home builder in Land O Lakes. Jim Deitch, Chief Operating Officer for Southern Crafted Homes served 12 years in the Marine Corps and is a veteran of the Gulf War. Jerry Heffelfinger, Southern Crafted Homes design manager is retired Marine Corps and is also a Gulf War veteran. Bob Jesski, Southern Crafted Homes Vice President of Sales and Robert Shirley, Construction Manager are veterans of the Unites States Army. Together, they have worked to understand the special needs of returning war veterans who have been injured by IED’s and combat. With in house design capabilities and an understanding of the Veteran’s Administration’s requirements for grant funds the company can deliver their award winning designs to all who want to live in a Southern Crafted Homes community.

Returning veterans may find the home buying experience frustrating as they address the various things in their prospective home that work or do not work for their special needs. Southern Crafted Homes prefers to address those needs right up front to ensure we select the most appropriate floor plan and make the necessary design adjustments to accommodate our homeowners.  Most importantly we do so in such a way to ensure that the home looks like it was “born that way” as opposed to obviously modified.

Everything from access to all points of the home (foyer, garage, and lanai) to wheel chair accessible bathrooms and bedrooms, properly designed showers for easy access, lowered bathroom vanities with wheel chair accessibility to easy to reach light switches and receptacles. Our trained staff will interview each prospect to find out if there are any special requirements and will provide a level of service that cannot be matched without spending a significant amount of money with a design/build firm.

Find out about the Southern Crafted Homes difference where Building Better Lifestyles should be available to everyone. We salute our military and are proud to serve the military community.
